Seafood Processor standards and guidelines

PrimeSafe licence conditions require all seafood businesses to comply with relevant Australian and Victorian standards, and guidelines.

The relevant standard and guideline for a seafood processor is the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code.

Seafood businesses that process meat and/or poultry (including storage) must ensure that their food safety program is based on the principles of a Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) plan.

Australian Shellfish Quality Assurance Program (ASQAP) manual

In August 2016, the Implementation Sub-Committee on Food Regulation endorsed the ASQAP manual. The ASQAP manual describes food safety requirements for the production, harvest and storage of bivalve molluscs (e.g. oysters, scallops, mussels and pippis) for compliance with the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code.
